What does Keyed Alike mean?

Keyed Alike means one key fits all locks – usually all locks in the same manufactured batch. This can be useful for fitting locks on your front and back doors and takes away the issue of searching for the right key to unlock specific doors.

What is a Mortice Lock?

These are locks that require a hole to be made inside the door to be fitted. A key can then be inserted from either side to unlock the door

What is the difference between a Dead Lock and a Sash Lock?

A dead lock is a mortice type lock that just has a keyhole and a bolt, a sash lock has a keyhole, bolt and can attach a pair of handles with a spindle.

What are the Benefits of a Padlock with a Plastic Jacket?

Plastic jackets further protect the padlock from weather damage, but also provide protection from solid elements such as dirt, sand and grit. Jackets with a guarded keyway will further prevent the lock from becoming jammed with solid material – this is ideal for padlock in sandy or gritty areas or if used on a vehicle.

Do I need a fully Weatherproof Padlock?

A fully weatherproof padlock uses 100% stainless and non-corrosive materials. They are also known as marine padlocks and are suitable for saline and other extreme environments. The average user will not need this level of protection.

Many non-marine padlocks are perfectly suitable for outdoor use. Generally, we would recommend standard padlocks with a hardened shackle for general outdoor use.

Does Weather Resistant mean Rust Proof?

Weather Resistant means the lock can withstand light exposure to the elements.

Combonation Padlocks

Is my padlock resettable?

The product description on the site will clearly state whether an item is resettable, so you don’t need to worry.

How do I reset my combination lock?

Instructions for resetting combination locks are usually included with the item and will always be in the product description on the site. As a lot of locks have slightly different methods of setting codes, we are unable to provide instructions here.

I've forgotten my padlock code, is there anything I can do?

Unfortunately, we are unable to assist with opening a padlock without the code.

Functionality

My lock seems hard to open/stiff. What should I do?

We recommend using a silicone-based spray to lubricate the lock. Spray the lubricant directly into the keyway and leave to soak for a few minutes. Gently try the lock again and ensure the lubricant has fully entered the cylinder. Repeat if necessary. Never try to force the lock as they key may snap off and render the lock useless.
